The Placement Process
Over nearly three decades we have built an exceptional track record of matching students to internship experiences which offer rich opportunities for growth. Our proven methodology, together with our extensive network of employer relationships, has enabled us to secure placements with companies and organizations across a broad range of industry sectors.
When matching students and employers, we follow our proven process:
Pre-placement student meetings
Our experienced Placement Team works with students on an individual basis taking great care to understand each student’s goals and aspirations. Pre-placement meetings with students take place either in person on the university campus or via phone/Skype. Students can discuss their backgrounds, ask questions, and share placement priorities and preferences.
Throughout the placement process considerable effort is made to match each student to an appropriate internship based on his or her skills, interests, and career aspirations. While students often have ambitious goals, we counsel them to view placements as a starting point for acquiring specific skills, helping them develop a “road map” for reaching their professional destinations.
Based on information from the individualized assessment, the Placement Team matches each student to a potential internship site. Placements are based on factors such as workplace culture, project needs and work cycles, and knowledge of opportunities from our networks and database of more than 2,000 vetted sponsor contacts. If an appropriate internship is not available through our existing contacts, the AIC Placement Team will perform personalized placement outreach to generate a new opportunity appropriate for that student.
Once the match is made, a confirmation interview is always required. Interviews are conducted by phone/Skype or in person between the student and the student’s direct supervisor at the internship site. The AIC team always goes the extra mile to provide individual consultations to prepare students and to prepare students for a successful interview.
Ongoing Internship support
Throughout the internship experience the AIC Placement Team is available for counseling and trouble-shooting. One of the most valuable learning outcomes from an internship can be the methods students might utilize to positively impact a challenging workplace situation. In addition to the ongoing support, a mid-term review is required to help identify potential challenges, goals and strategies for the remainder of the internship.
Upon completion of the placement, each sponsor and student will complete evaluations to assess individual student performance and overall internship satisfaction. The AIC Placement Team will provide copies to the appropriate university contact to be considered for part of the academic assessment and overall program assessment. Students can also receive program wrap-up support in the form of coaching from the AIC Placement Team to add perspective to their experiences. Students often require guidance to incorporate their experiences into their resumes to better position themselves to take the next step toward their career goals.
